Use Tactiq to capture live captions and create a transcript during your Zoom meetings. After the meeting, you can review the transcript and use Tactiq’s AI tools from your dashboard.

Choose how to transcribe your Zoom meeting

Tactiq supports two ways to transcribe Zoom meetings:

💡 Note: The Tactiq browser extension does not record or store meeting audio or video. It captures the live captions displayed during your Zoom meeting.

Before you start

Make sure you:

Install the Tactiq extension in Chrome or Edge.
Sign in to your Tactiq account.
Join the Zoom meeting in your browser instead of the Zoom Desktop app.
Enable Zoom’s Automated captions setting.

Enable automated captions in Zoom

Automated captions is required because the Tactiq browser extension uses Zoom’s live captions to create the transcript.

If you host Zoom meetings:

Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
Go to Settings and open the Meeting tab.
Find In Meeting (Advanced).
Turn on Automated captions.
Select the languages you want Zoom to support, if prompted.
Select Save to apply your changes.

If Automated captions is unavailable or locked, contact your Zoom account administrator. The setting may be controlled at the account or group level.

Start transcribing a Zoom meeting

Join the Zoom meeting using Chrome or Edge.
Select Show captions from the Zoom meeting controls.
Choose the language being spoken in the meeting.
Open the Tactiq widget and confirm that its transcription language matches the spoken language.
Speak for a few moments and confirm that live text appears in both Zoom captions and the Tactiq widget.

When live text appears in the Tactiq widget, transcription is active.

💡 Note: Select the correct spoken language at the beginning of the meeting. A language mismatch can reduce transcription accuracy.

Allow captions as the meeting host

Zoom may restrict who can enable captions. If a participant cannot turn them on:

Select the arrow next to Show captions.
Open Host caption control settings.
Turn on Allow closed captioning for this meeting.

If you are a participant, request that the host enable captions. Zoom may display an option that lets you send this request directly.

Change the spoken language

Change the language when the meeting is being held in a different language from the one currently selected:

Select the arrow next to Show captions.
Choose the language being spoken.
Open the Tactiq widget and select the same language.
Confirm that the captions and Tactiq transcript update correctly.

Avoid changing the language during the meeting unless the spoken language also changes.

Access your transcript after the meeting

After the meeting ends:

Open your Tactiq dashboard using the same account that was active during the meeting.
Find and open the meeting to review the transcript.
Use the available AI tools to generate summaries, action items, and other meeting insights.

Troubleshoot the Tactiq widget not appearing

If the Tactiq widget does not appear:

Confirm that you joined Zoom in Chrome or Edge.
Confirm that the Tactiq extension is installed and enabled.
Sign in to your Tactiq account.
Refresh the Zoom page and rejoin the meeting.

The browser extension does not activate inside the Zoom Desktop app. On macOS, use the separate Tactiq macOS app for Zoom Desktop meetings.

Troubleshoot the widget showing no live text

If the widget appears but does not show transcription:

Confirm that Zoom captions are visible and updating when someone speaks.
Turn Show captions off and on again to refresh the caption connection.
Confirm that Zoom and the Tactiq widget use the same spoken language.
Ask the host to allow captions if Zoom restricts caption access.
Speak for one to two minutes and check whether text appears in the widget.

If Zoom does not display live captions, Tactiq cannot capture the conversation through the browser extension.

Recover an unsaved transcript

If the transcript does not appear in your meeting list:

Go to Account Settings.
Open Data stored in your browser.
Select Manage Unsaved Transcripts.
Save any available transcript you want to keep.

Unsaved transcripts are stored in the browser where the meeting occurred. Check from the same browser and device before clearing your browser data.

FAQs

Does Tactiq work with the Zoom Desktop app?

The browser extension does not work inside the Zoom Desktop app. If you use macOS, you can install the Tactiq macOS app to transcribe Zoom Desktop meetings.

Does Tactiq add a bot to the meeting?

No. Tactiq works without adding a separate bot to the Zoom meeting.

Is there a meeting-length limit?

Tactiq does not have a fixed transcription time limit. Keep Zoom captions active and maintain a stable internet connection throughout the meeting.
