Tactiq automatically transcribes your Microsoft Teams meetings in real time when you use the web version of Teams. Follow these quick steps to set up and get the most out of Tactiq.

Install Tactiq for Microsoft Teams

  • Install the Tactiq extension from the Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons store to enable transcription in Teams.

  • For full installation steps, see How to install the Tactiq extension.

Join a Microsoft Teams meeting

  • Join your meeting using the web version of Teams — not the desktop app.

  • Tactiq will automatically start transcribing as soon as the meeting begins, and you’ll see live captions on the right side of your meeting window.

📌 Note: You can join a meeting from your calendar invite, with a meeting ID, or by clicking Meet Now in your Teams calendar.

Light meetings (Teams Light experience)

Sometimes Microsoft Teams opens your meeting in the light experience when you join from a browser. This often happens when the meeting invite link was created in the desktop app.

You can confirm you're in a light meeting by checking the URL in your browser:

  • If the URL includes teams.microsoft.com/light-meetings/launch, the meeting is using the light experience.

To make sure Tactiq can transcribe in a light meeting:

  • Enable Live captions in Teams by clicking the three dots (...) in the meeting controls and selecting Captions.

  • Open the Tactiq widget and set the language to match the spoken language of the meeting.

Enable speaker identification

If your transcript shows Speaker 1 instead of participant names, enable speaker identification in Teams:

  • Go to SettingsAccessibilityCaptions and transcripts, and toggle on Automatically identify me in meeting captions and transcripts.

Change the transcription language

To switch the transcription language, open the widget during your meeting and select your preferred language.

For details, see:

Access your transcript

  • You’ll also receive an email with a direct link for quick access.

FAQs

I installed the extension, but it doesn't work with MS Teams. What should I do?

  • Make sure you're using the web version of Teams, not the desktop app.

  • Check that the Tactiq browser extension is installed and enabled.

  • Visit https://app.tactiq.io/#/setup to confirm that Tactiq is connected to your Microsoft Teams web client.

Help! I can't change the language on MS Teams

If you're attending a meeting on MS Teams as a participant, you can ask the host to change the meeting language.

Is there a time limit for Tactiq's transcription?

Tactiq does not have a time limit for its transcription. It can transcribe meetings of any length, as long as the internet connection remains stable and the meeting isn't interrupted.

How do I access unsaved transcripts?

Open the Tactiq extension from your browser, and you’ll see a banner if you have any unsaved transcripts. Click VIEW to open and save them.

Tactiq isn’t transcribing my Teams meeting even though I’m using the browser. What should I do?

Check the meeting URL in your browser. If it shows teams.microsoft.com/light-meetings/launch, you’re in a light meeting. In that case, enable Live captions in Teams (three dots ...Captions) and set the correct language in the Tactiq widget.

I joined from a Teams invite link and ended up in a light meeting. Is that expected?

Yes, it can happen depending on how the meeting invite link was created (for example, from the Microsoft Teams desktop app). If you’re in a light meeting, enable Live captions in Teams and choose the correct language in the Tactiq widget.
