Companion mode lets you join a meeting from a second screen without connecting your microphone or meeting audio. To use Tactiq in this mode, join from a supported desktop browser and turn on Google Meet live captions.
Before you start
Make sure that:
You’re using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on a laptop or desktop computer.
The Tactiq extension is installed and you’re signed in.
The transcription language in Tactiq matches the language being spoken during the meeting.
Join the meeting in Companion mode
Open the Google Meet invitation and select
Join.Under
Other joining options, selectUse Companion mode.Complete the room check-in steps if Google Meet prompts you to check in.
💡 Note: Companion mode turns off your microphone and meeting audio to prevent feedback. Use meeting-room hardware or another device to speak and listen.
Start the Tactiq transcription
After joining the meeting, select
Turn on captions(CC) in the meeting controls.In the Tactiq panel, check the language shown next to
Transcribing.If the language is incorrect, select
Changeand choose the language being spoken.When someone speaks, confirm that text appears under
Live Transcriptin Tactiq.
💡 Note: Tactiq begins transcribing in Companion mode after Google Meet live captions are turned on.
View the transcript after the meeting
After leaving the meeting, open your Tactiq dashboard to view, edit, or share the transcript.

If Tactiq isn’t transcribing:
Confirm that Google Meet live captions are turned on.
Check that the Tactiq transcription language matches the spoken language.
Make sure you’re signed in to the correct Tactiq account.
Update the Tactiq extension and refresh Google Meet.
Leave and rejoin the meeting, then test the transcription again.
Tactiq can only capture speech after live captions are enabled. Speech from earlier in the meeting cannot be recovered if it wasn’t transcribed.
