How to use Tactiq with Microsoft Teams meetings

Learn how to use Tactiq to transcribe Microsoft Teams meetings in your browser, select the correct language, identify speakers, and access your transcript afterward.

Written by Gil Patindol

Tactiq supports Microsoft Teams meetings in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and the Microsoft Teams Progressive Web App (PWA). The Microsoft Teams desktop application is not currently supported.

Before you start

  • Use a laptop or desktop computer with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

  • Enable Microsoft Teams when choosing your meeting apps during Tactiq setup.

  • Confirm that the Tactiq extension is installed and enabled in your browser.

Join a Microsoft Teams meeting in your browser

  • Open the meeting link in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

  • Select Continue on this browser if Teams asks whether you want to use the browser or desktop app.

  • Allow access to your microphone and camera if prompted.

  • Choose your audio and video settings, then select Join now.

  • After you enter the meeting, check that the Tactiq widget appears on the right side of the meeting window.

Tactiq starts displaying the live transcript after participants begin speaking.

You can also join from your Teams calendar or by using a meeting ID and passcode.

Use Tactiq in a Teams light meeting

Microsoft Teams may open some browser meetings in its light meeting experience, especially when you join as a guest or participant.

Check the address bar in your browser. If the URL contains /light-meetings/,

Follow these steps if Tactiq does not start transcribing:

  • Select More actions in the Teams meeting controls.

  • Go to Language and speech > Show live captions.

  • Select Caption settings beside the Teams captions, then open Language settings.

  • Under Meeting spoken language, select the language being spoken.

  • Select Update.

  • Open the Tactiq widget and confirm that its transcription language matches the meeting’s spoken language.

If you cannot change Meeting spoken language, ask the meeting organizer to enable live captions and select the correct language.

💡 Note: The Teams meeting spoken language must match the language participants are speaking. A mismatch can prevent Tactiq from activating correctly or produce an inaccurate transcript.

For more information about the current Teams controls, see Microsoft’s guide to using live captions in Microsoft Teams meetings.

Change the transcription language

  • Open the Tactiq widget during the meeting.

  • Select the language being spoken.

For a Teams light meeting, also confirm that Meeting spoken language in Teams matches your selection in Tactiq. See How do I change the transcription language during a meeting? for more information.

Show participant names in the transcript

If the transcript displays generic labels such as Speaker 1, enable speaker identification in Microsoft Teams before your meeting:

  • Open Settings and more in Teams and select Settings.

  • Go to Accessibility > Captions and transcripts.

  • Turn on Automatically identify me in live captions and live transcripts.

This setting allows Teams to display your name with your captions and transcripts. Each participant controls their own speaker-identification setting.

Access your transcript

  • Open your Tactiq dashboard during or after the meeting.

  • Select the meeting to view, edit, highlight, or share its transcript.

You may also receive an email containing a direct link to the transcript.

Troubleshoot Microsoft Teams transcription

If the Tactiq widget does not appear:

  • Confirm that you joined through Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or the Teams PWA.

  • Confirm that the Tactiq extension is installed and enabled.

  • Visit the Tactiq setup page and confirm that Microsoft Teams is enabled.

  • Refresh the Teams meeting page and rejoin the meeting.

If the widget appears but no transcript is displayed:

  • Confirm that participants are speaking.

  • Check whether the meeting URL contains /light-meetings/.

  • Turn on Teams live captions from More actions > Language and speech > Show live captions.

  • Confirm that the Teams and Tactiq language settings match the spoken language.

  • Ask the organizer to update the meeting’s spoken language if you cannot change it.

  • Update the Tactiq extension and restart your browser.

If the transcript still does not start, try the Microsoft Teams PWA or contact Tactiq Support.
