You can update an extension on Microsoft Edge automatically by restarting the browser or manually by using the Update button in Developer mode.

Automatic updates (the easy way)

Edge checks for extension updates each time you start it.

  • Just close Edge and open it again.

  • Edge will silently download and install any new versions it finds.

  • You may need to restart Edge once more for the update to take effect.

How to manually update extensions

If you want to force an update right away (for example, when using unpacked or developer extensions):

  • Open Edge and go to Menu ⋯Extensions, or type edge://extensions in the address bar.

  • Turn on Developer mode (bottom-left corner).

  • Click Update at the top. Edge will check and update all installed extensions immediately.

  • Restart Edge if prompted.

Note: For unpacked (sideloaded) extensions, replace the folder with the newer build before clicking Update.
